Blue Origin rebuilds LC-36 with hybrid CONOPS for New Glenn return

After the May hotfire pad loss, Blue Origin skips a clone TE and moves to horizontal mate plus crane breakover—year-end/December target with Blue Ring, not a confirmed date.

Blue Origin is rebuilding Launch Complex 36 as engineering infrastructure—not just clearing wreckage—after a 28 May 2026 New Glenn integrated hotfire anomaly at the Florida pad destroyed the lightning tower, transporter-erector, and hydraulic cylinders while sparing the tank farm, Integration Facility, vehicle access tower, and water tower.

CEO Dave Limp’s return-to-flight note says the company is not reconstructing the old pad layout. Instead it is jumping to a horizontal/vertical hybrid CONOPS already planned for the 9×4 New Glenn variant: mate stages horizontally with existing assets, roll out, then use a crane for vertical breakover onto a refurbished launch table and hold-down ring, with payload mate at the pad. Skipping a new transporter-erector is meant to create a common operations concept across pads and speed recovery. Path-to-flight phases list site recovery complete and CONOPS design plus major repairs in work, ahead of systems integration and flight readiness.

Jeff Bezos, in October coverage, pointed to a December / year-end launch target and a Blue Ring payload for the return mission—treat December as a target, not a locked date. Advanced Television also reported an FAA environmental process seeking to raise annual launches from 12 toward 50, with comment timing cited around late October, while Bezos described multiple pads under construction for a higher cadence.

The tech story is CONOPS and ground systems: cryogenic umbilicals, crane breakover, salvaged launch bridge and deluge hardware, and whether hybrid integration can restore reliability without waiting for a one-for-one pad clone. Flight hardware continues to build; the pad is the critical path.
